Russia ships LNG to China via the Arctic for the first time

For the first time, a shipment of liquefied natural gas (LNG) was delivered to China via the Northern Sea Route. The first shipment of liquefied natural gas from Gazprom's plant in the Baltic Sea departed on August 14 on the tanker Veliky Novgorod.

Now the tanker is moored near the Tangshan Caofeidian terminal in Hebei Province.

The Portovaya LNG Liquefaction Plant, with a capacity of 1.5 million tons per year, was launched in September last year. Since then, LNG deliveries have been made only to Turkiye or Greece.

The next tanker, the Pskov, from the Portovaya natural gas liquefaction plant, has departed for the Suez Canal.
