Center to test materials under Arctic conditions to open in Tiksi

A federal research center will be established in the Arctic town of Tiksi this year. The center will be located at Yury Shafer Institute of Cosmophysical Research and Aeronomy under the Russian Academy of Sciences' Siberian Branch. The building to be used for this research will be renovated to suit the center's requirements, the Arctic-Info news agency reported.

The center will test materials and study changes in their chemical and physical properties in cold environments. It will also conduct fundamental and applied studies and conduct appraisal surveys in the key areas of innovation-based economic development of Russia's eastern Arctic sector.

The center will focus on ways to facilitate human adjustment to Arctic conditions and will create biological preparations for a better life in the Arctic environment.
