Round the world yacht expedition reaches Taimyr

Participants in the round the world voyage On the Routes of the Great Expeditions, sailing aboard the sailing yacht Yelizaveta, who left Krasnoyarsk on July 9, have arrived in Dudinka, Taimyr's administrative centre, the district administration's website reported.

From there, the expedition will cross the Kara Sea and sail for Arkhangelsk. It will then sail along the White Sea-Baltic Sea canal to Lake Ladoga and from there down the Neva to the Gulf of Finland. Kronstadt is the final destination for this year's stage of the expedition, which will continue until 2020 and consists of 6 stages in total — European, Trans-Atlantic, American, Antarctic, Pacific, and East Arctic. The voyagers will sail a total of 31,000 nautical miles during this period of time.

During this round of the world voyage, the project's participants plan to put together a travel guide indicating mooring sites and communications zones, will take part in international regattas in the seas along the routes, and also collect hydrographical data on the shelf and in little studied and remote parts of the open seas.
