Northern Fleet’s hydrographers discover new Arctic islands

The Northern Fleet's hydrographers have discovered two new islands in the Arctic, TASS reports, citing the fleet's press service. The discovery was made during a 46-day expedition of the Northern Fleet's hydrographic ship, the Gorizont.

"Hydrographers on the Gorizont have discovered two new bodies near the glaciers on the Novaya Zemlya coast on their radar screens. The hydrographic ship, the Vizir, which is also conducting research in the Arctic, is expected to survey these bodies visually," the press service reports.

The hydrographic expedition conducted surveys in the Barents and Kara seas and near Port Dikson in the Yenisei Gulf. The head of the Northern Fleet's hydrographic service department, Captain Alexei Kornis said the ship and crew accomplished their objectives in spite of the unfavorable weather.
