Russian Academy of Sciences to set up Arctic research center in Arkhangelsk

A comprehensive Arctic research center under the Russian Academy of Sciences will be opened in Arkhangelsk before the year is out, Acting Arkhangelsk Region Governor Igor Orlov told Rossiya Segodnya.

"We have everything we need to complete the preparations for this center that is designed to integrate Arctic research," Mr. Orlov noted.

The center will be established at one of the Academy's six regional institutes, he said.

"Where does all the information and knowledge come from? Good question. At this point, most our research and knowledge must be collected from various research centers. We suggested establishing a center of integral knowledge that can centralize all this information and oversee practical application. We've also suggested establishing a center that can specialize in Arctic medicine," Mr. Orlov added.
