Vaigach nuclear icebreaker sets speed record navigating along Northern Sea Route

The nuclear-powered icebreaker Vaigach set a speed record when navigating along the Northern Sea Route and covered a distance of 2,250 miles in seven and a half days, or 185 hours, with an average speed of 12.5 knots, said Russia's nuclear icebreaker fleet operator Rosatomflot.

The Vaigach completed the journey from Cape Dezhnev to Bely Island at 11 a.m. on December 25.

The icebreaker is now working to clear the way for ships in the Kara Sea toward the Sabetta seaport.
