Russian Defense Ministry tests new military vehicles in the Arctic

Russia's Defense Ministry has concluded a second expedition to test new military vehicles under Arctic conditions on Varandei Peninsula in the Nenets Autonomous Region, Deputy Defense Minister, Army General Dmitry Bulgakov said, according to a RIA Novosti report.

"The Russian Defense Ministry and defense industry manufacturers have concluded a research expedition using upgraded military vehicles in the Arctic. The convoy and the personnel have returned to the Moscow Region town of Bronnitsy," he said, adding that recommendations will now be issued to improve certain parts of the vehicles.

Bulgakov said the expedition, whose chief aim was to test the combat performance of about 20 vehicles in the adverse Arctic climate, was successfully accomplished. Over 30 parameters were tested to prove reliable performance in the Arctic.

The test included specialized Kamaz, Trecol and Ural vehicles, as well as military snowmobiles, and new fast inflatable shelters.

The first expedition was conducted in 2015 on Rybachy Peninsula in the Murmansk Region.
