Miller: Arctic Gate terminal meets all safety and environmental criteria

The Arctic Gate terminal on the Yamal Peninsula complies with the strictest industrial and environmental safety requirements, Alexei Miller, Gazprom CEO, said as quoted by RIA Novosti.

"The terminal meets the highest industrial and environmental safety standards. The terminal uses so-called zero discharge technology. This means that under no circumstances will hazardous contaminants be discharged into the Gulf of Ob," Miller said.

According to the Gazprom chief, the terminal is fully computerized and controlled remotely from the shore. It is the only facility of this kind operating beyond the Arctic Circle.

On May 25, President Vladimir Putin launched the first oil transfer to a waiting tanker. Alexei Miller, Gazprom CEO, and Gazprom Neft CEO Alexander Dyukov attended the ceremony at the terminal.

The Arctic Gate terminal has the capacity to transfer 8.5 million metric tons of oil per year and was built to operate in extreme weather and geographical conditions.
