Vice-Admiral Yevmenov: Defense Ministry’s facilities in the Arctic almost 100 percent ready

The construction of the unique administrative and residential complexes Arktichesky Trilistnik (Arctic Trefoil) and Severny Klever (Northern Clover) on the Alexandra Land and Kotelny islands is almost complete, TASS quoted Northern Fleet Commander, Vice-Admiral Nikolai Yevmenov as saying.

"These two centers are close to 100 percent complete. The Northern Fleet's regional center is thoroughly monitoring the construction, providing fleet and army commanders and the Defense Ministry with full and prompt information on the processes of the sites in the Arctic," the commander said on July 31.

He called the Arctic region the Northern Fleet's priority, adding that the military strives to preserve the unique natural qualities of the north. "Our Arctic activity is based on environmental safety. It is related both to construction projects and military exercises in this region," he said.

The Northern Fleet administration and logistics service has been working on Kotelny Island during the summer season for two years. They are cleaning the island of scrap metal discarded in Soviet times and empty oil barrels. The fleet's environmental units have compressed and shipped over 24,000 metal barrels this year.
