Foreign Ministry Ambassador-at-Large: Maintaining security in the region is the main objective of Arctic states

Maintaining stability and security in the region is the main objective of the Arctic states, the Foreign Ministry's Ambassador-at-Large Vladimir Barbin said in an interview with TASS. According to him, a large number of foreign delegations will attend the fourth International Arctic Forum to be held in Arkhangelsk on March 29-30.

"Taking into account the international situation, the most important thing now is to ensure the maintenance of peace, stability and security in the Arctic region and create conditions for improving people's quality of life. I'm pleased to know that all Arctic states confirm their commitment to these goals," Barbin said.

At the same time, he noted that foreign participation is not limited to these goals only, and that the forum will be attended by foreign representatives of the business community. "As business has no boundaries, the forum will be attended by representatives of countries which are located far beyond the Arctic region," he said.

The first Arctic — Territory of Dialogue Forum took place in 2010 and focused on modern problems in the Arctic region. The second forum was held in 2011 and was devoted to the creation of the Arctic transport system. The forum centered on environmental security in 2013.
