Putin calls for stronger borders in the Far East and the Arctic

Speaking at a meeting of the Federal Security Service (FSB) Board, Russian President Vladimir Putin demanded the strengthening of underdeveloped border sections, including in the Far East and the Arctic.

The President recalled that effective border security is part of measures to ensure national security. "First and foremost, we must block the channels used by members of international terrorist and extremist groups to enter Russia, and cut short all kinds of contraband, from weapons to drugs to a variety of biological resources," Putin said.

He added that Russia will continue to reinforce the central and regional bodies of the FSB, and to provide them with modern weaponry and equipment.
