Icebreaker Novorossiisk to serve as exhibit/hotel during The Arctic: Territory of Dialogue forum

The icebreaker Novorossiisk will drop anchor in Arkhangelsk during the fourth forum, The Arctic: Territory of Dialogue forum, to be held on March 29-30. The ship will be displayed along with other exhibits and will also serve as a hotel, Arkhangelsk Region Governor Igor Orlov told journalists at a St. Petersburg-TASS press center.

"It has been decided that the icebreaker Novorossiisk will call at Arkhangelsk during the forum and highlight Russia's Arctic potential. The ship will be one of the forum's exhibits and will also serve as a hotel for 75 guests," Mr Orlov added.

The forum will also include an open-air exhibition site featuring equipment used by the Russian Ministry for Civil Defense, Emergencies and Disaster Relief and by companies that are operating in the Arctic, he said.

Commissioned by the Russian Federal Marine and River Transport Agency, the Project 21900M diesel-electric icebreaker Novorossiisk was built at the Vyborg Shipyards in cooperation with Finland's Arctech Helsinki Shipyard and transferred to the client in December 2016. The ship's maiden Arctic voyage was this past February.

Two other similar icebreakers, the Vladivostok and the Murmansk, are already sailing the Baltic Sea and the Arctic Ocean. There are plans to deploy the Novorossiisk in the Baltic Sea in winter and in Arctic seas during the summer-autumn season.
