Environment minister praises new construction technologies used at Yamal LNG plant

Natural Resources and Environment Minister Sergei Donskoy praised the environmental standards of the project to build the Yamal LNG plant. The use of new construction technologies implies an easy dismantling process, the minister said during the ECOTECH International Exhibition and Forum in Moscow.

"Special construction technologies were used for this project, and we closely monitored their application. I am referring to the method of prefab construction. It is the first time that this method has been used to build such a large plant in the Arctic. It is a promising principle of building a structure not brick by brick but of large units. This method is good for maintaining the necessary environmental standards. In addition, it will be very easy to dismantle this plant when we no longer need it," Donskoy said.

The environmental experts will only need to remove the units.

"I believe that environmental compliance standards at this project are very high. In addition, it is a gas liquefaction facility, and we should consider making broader use of LNG for transportation and technological development in the Arctic. This will help us preserve, if not improve, the Arctic nature," the minister said.
