An Emergencies Ministry rescue team to be deployed in Amderma

A branch of the Arctic rescue center will open in the village of Amderma in the Nenets Autonomous Area, Emergencies Minister Vladimir Puchkov said on January 6.

"A directive will be signed today for the creation of a branch of the Nenets Arctic Rescue Center in the village of Amderma," Puchkov said, adding that the recruitment of rescue personnel would begin in the next few days.

The branch will have reliable off-road vehicles, including snow mobiles. It will also offer distance learning for rescue personnel.

"The Arctic rescue center's team in Naryan-Mar together with the fire and rescue personnel of the Nenets Autonomous Area as a whole can reliably protect the local infrastructure as well as the economic facilities from various disasters. But we will continue to upgrade their fire-fighting and rescue capabilities," the Emergencies Minister said.

Acting Governor of the Nenets Autonomous Area Alexander Tsybulsky pointed out that the development potential of the rescue centers would promote the economic growth of Russia's northern regions. He also said that "all accidents reported in the Nenets area during the New Year holidays have been promptly contained thanks to the rescue personnel."
