Foreign Ministry deems international cooperation a priority for Arctic development

Development of international cooperation is a priority for the Russian Arctic zone, the Foreign Ministry said following a meeting of the working group of the State Commission on Arctic Development.

"Practical aspects of Russia's Arctic policy were addressed. Particular attention was given to the prospects of utilizing the potential for international cooperation to achieve social and economic development goals in the Russian Arctic zone, as laid out by the Russian president," the ministry said in a statement posted on its website.

During the meeting, Russia also reiterated its interest in the implementation of various projects, including with foreign participation, to ensure the sustainable development of the Extreme North and the environmental security of the Arctic.

"The meeting underscored the importance of countering the attempts to politicize international cooperation in the Arctic and introduce a confrontational agenda into regional cooperation," the statement said.
