British Arctic convoy veterans visit Crimea

Crimea welcomed veterans of Arctic Convoys from the UK, who delivered strategic supplies and food to the USSR during WWII, the Rossiiskaya Gazeta newspaper reported. Earlier, the veterans visited St. Petersburg.

"We were warmly welcomed in Moscow, St. Petersburg and now in Crimea," said Chairman of the Russia Convoy Club (London) and Arctic Convoys veteran Ernest Davies.

In Simferopol, the British veterans met with Crimean veterans and laid flowers and wreaths to the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and the monument to the T-34 tank.

Between 1941 and 1945, British warships led 78 convoys through the Barents Sea to the ports of Murmansk and Arkhangelsk, having delivered four million metric tons of cargo under the lend-lease program.
