Deputy Security Council Secretary: Russia is ready for agreements with US on Arctic resources

Russia is prepared to cooperate with the US on agreements on the regulation of Arctic geological resources, RIA Novosti quotes Deputy Security Council Secretary Yevgeny Lukyanov as saying.

"I'd like to point out the US initiative to draw up agreements to regulate the use of geological resources in the Arctic Ocean, which could lose its ice cover in the near future. We are prepared to take part in this," Lukyanov said during the session "International Cooperation for the Development of the Economic Potential of the Arctic zone" as part of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.

The Deputy Security Council Secretary noted that easier access to the Arctic should not promote the irresponsible or wasteful use of resources.
