Lavrov: Moscow continues to maintain peace and stability in the Arctic

Russia has a vested interest in the preservation of peace and stability in the Arctic and will work with other states to maintain peace and stability and to respond to the challenges emerging in the region, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said in his message of greetings to participants at the VII International Forum, Arctic: Today and the Future. The message is posted on the Foreign Ministry website.

"Russia has a vested interest in maintaining peace and stability in the region and will continue, along with the other Arctic states, to respond in a timely manner to the various challenges in the Arctic and to look for new opportunities to build interaction," he stated.

Mr Lavrov believes that the International Forum, Arctic: Today and the Future has become an authoritative venue for discussing regional issues. "I am confident that the results of this forum will promote the further development of the Arctic territories and large-scale international cooperation, including efforts to improve the quality of life of the peoples in the extreme north," he noted.
