Reindeer farms in the Nenets Autonomous Region will celebrate Reindeer Day from July 29 to Aug. 6, the Arktika Info news agency reported.

As part of a central event, reindeer-farming competition winners will be announced, with prizes amounting to 300,000, 250,000 and 200,000 rubles. Reindeer-breeding teams will receive from 60,000 to 160,000 rubles.

Farmers who hunter reindeer predators will also be rewarded with 8,000 rubles in cash prizes per male wolf and 10,000 rubles per female wolf.

Ethnic sports competitions and deer-harness races will also be held as part of Reindeer Day. Winners will be awarded cups, certificates, medals and gifts.

A total of 15.2 million rubles were allocated to fund the events from the area's budget as part of the Preservation and Development of Indigenous Small-Numbered Peoples of the North in the Nenets Autonomous Area state program.

Over 3.1 million rubles were allocated to purchase presents and everything else needed to host the celebrations and sports events.
