The Reindeer Herders Union in the Nenets Autonomous Area now has an official website dedicated to northern reindeer herding.  The page was launched on November 2015, nao24.ru reports, citing the Union's press secretary Olga Smirnova.

"The portal will provide its audience with the latest news and legislation of the industry,  an online fair for purchasing  reindeer herding products, as well as  a host of ethno-cultural information," Ms Smirnova said. She added that the website is expected to become a communication and operating platform for all the area's reindeer farms.

It is expected that the online reindeer fair will allow the Union to educate a wider audience of potential buyers about the Nenets national products and help expand its sales territory.

Olga Smirnova said that the portal will also provide useful information for reindeer farms from other regions and countries. "Representatives of the blog, photo and cinematography industries, as well as tourists, have expressed an increased interest in the reindeer herding culture, including a desire to immerse themselves in the authentic nomadic lifestyle. The Union's portal will make the world of Nenets herdsmen accessible for them, a development which is profitable for both reindeer breeders and the Nenets Autonomous Area. Newly attracted tourism will enhance the image of this seldom-visited area inhabited by strong people and reindeer," she said.
