Education and Science Ministry in charge of training personnel for the Arctic

The Ministry of Education and Science coordinates the training of personnel for Arctic exploration, the agency's press service reports.

The head of the ministry, Dmitry Livanov, said it took a number of measures to meet the region's personnel requirements in 2014 and 2015. "It is hard to carry out any projects without the human potential, and our ministry should pool the efforts of different agencies to train personnel for Arctic exploration," Mr Livanov said.

He pointed out that the systems of secondary vocational and additional education are playing a major role in Arctic exploration. "The analysis established that the annual additional requirement in specialists with secondary professional education is fairly stable and amounts to about 25,000 people," the minister specified.

Mr Livanov said that more than 120 major companies are on the list of employers involved in Arctic exploration. The ministry assessed the personnel requirements with their participation, and included representatives of these companies in its special working group.
