All Russian schools to hold Arctic class

All schools in Russia will hold an 'Arctic is the Facade of Russia' class in February 2016 to mark the upcoming 9th youth expedition ‘Skiing to the North Pole', TASS new agency reports citing the press service of the Russian Ministry of Education and Science.

"The class aims primarily to raise the awareness of school students about the Arctic environment, the history of Arctic exploration and development and the present-day exploitation of that region," the press release reads.

The 8th Russian youth polar expedition concluded on April 7, 2015. The team, which was headed by Education and Science Minister Dmitry Livanov, for the first time comprised winners and runners-up of nationwide academic Olympiads and regional intellectual competitions. Young travellers took a week to ski to the North Pole where they brought flags of Russia and their home regions.
