Arctic lighthouse keepers vote ahead of election day

Northern Fleet servicemen on remote Arctic islands have had an opportunity to cast their ballots during early voting ahead of the September 18 elections, TASS reported with reference to the Northern Fleet's press service.

"Early voting was organized on four Arctic islands and at 39 observation posts and lighthouses of the Northern Fleet in hard-to-access areas on the Barents and White seas coasts," the press service said.

Voting has taken place on the Franz Josef Land and Northern Land archipelagos and is still under way on Kotelny Island. In all, about 2,500 eligible voters in the Northern Fleet are expected to vote.

On September 18, Russians will go to polling stations to elect a new State Duma, as well as local legislative assemblies in 39 regions.
