NArFU Rector: Russian educational institutions run 300 Arctic programs

Russia offers 300 educational programs to train future Arctic specialists, Rector of the Northern (Arctic) Federal University (NArFU) Yelena Kudryashova told a plenary meeting of the Arctic Days in Moscow forum.

There are 88 secondary vocational education institutions in the Arctic zone where students study 68 specialties in over 90 programs.

"Eighty-five percent of the students that attend secondary and higher education institutions in Russia's Arctic zone find a job there," Yelena Kudryashova pointed out.

The main problems of Arctic staff preparation have been revealed. These are an unbalanced system of personnel training; the lack of an employment mechanism for graduates; poor interaction among educational institutions, businesses and the Russian Academy of Sciences; and enterprises with little interest in training specialists.
