Healthcare Ministry to receive RUB 200 mln for Arctic health programs

Almost 200 million rubles will be allocated to the Healthcare Ministry for programs to boost the accessibility and quality of medical care for people based in the Russian Arctic through 2020, TASS reports citing materials for a State Commission for Arctic Development meeting.

"Development of comprehensive support for research and instructional measures to maintain good health of the residents of the Russian Arctic zone by the Healthcare Ministry (200 million for 2017-2020)," reads the document.

The measures are expected to improve the accessibility and quality of healthcare in the Russian Arctic, which will help lower the disease and morbidity level, and "will significantly decrease the impact of hazardous environmental factors on the health of residents and shift workers in the Arctic."

The state commission will meet on March 29 in Arkhangelsk at the 4th The Arctic: Territory of Dialogue international forum.
