Taimyr to host the Arctic Attraction – Taimyr Ring-2015 auto expedition

The Arctic Expedition Center will organize an independent Arctic automobile expedition, called Arctic Attraction — Taimyr Ring, as part of celebrations to mark the 170th anniversary of the Russian Geographical Society, the Arctic-Info agency reports.

For the first time in history, a convoy of passenger cars will head for Cape Chelyuskin, the Taimyr Peninsula's and Eurasia's northernmost point, traveling through Novy Urengoy, Igarka, Norilsk, Dudinka and Dickson.

The participants are planning to monitor the state of abandoned settlements on Taimyr's western coast and visit sites marked by monuments to the expeditions of Boris Vilkitsky and Vladimir Rusanov.

The overall distance to be covered is about 10,000 kilometers. The expedition is expected to leave Novy Urengoy on February 16 and will take around two months.
