St. Petersburg to showcase indigenous cultures of the Russian North, Siberia and Far East

The Day of Russia's Indigenous Peoples will be held at the Russian Museum of Ethnography on August 9.  A concert featuring peoples of the North, Siberia and the Far East of Russia will take place in the museum's Marble Room as part of the 12th Enticing Worlds: Ethnic Russia traveling festival, according to the museum's website.

The concert program includes performances by the Nulgur Even national ensemble (Kamchatka), the Aurora Borealis folk studio theatre (Institute of the Peoples of the North, St. Petersburg), the Hendir Nganasan ethnic folk ensemble (Taimyr), the Setomaa ethnic ensemble (Pskov Region), Merited Artist of Russia Bolot Bairyshev (Altai), Svetlana Geuna (Chukotka) and Vladimir Khomenko (Evenkiya).

In 2016, the Enticing Worlds: Ethnic Russia festival will travel along the route from Murmansk to Neryungri. In the course of a month, the festival will make stops in 10 cities: St. Petersburg, Petrozavodsk, Murmansk, Kirovsk, Monchegorsk, Olenegorsk, Gadzhievo, Blagoveshchensk, Tynda and Neryungri, as well as in four ethnic villages: Sheltozero (Veps), Lovozero (Saami), Pervomayskoye and Iengre (Evenki).

The culture of Russia's native minorities will be celebrated at ethnic concerts, exhibitions showing the traditional way of life and handicrafts, photo shows, video screenings and interactive creative laboratories.
