Rosgeo to study Baydaratskaya Bay shelf hydrocarbon potential

Rosgeo will explore the geological structure and assess the hydrocarbon potential at the conjunction of the Polar Urals, Pay-Khoy Ridge and West Siberian platform.

According to the report on the holding's website, the operation was ordered by the Federal Agency for Mineral Resources' Department for Mineral Resources on the Continental Shelf and the World Ocean.

The company will study the geological structure and oil and gas production prospects in the marine extension of the Yamal oil- and gas-bearing region.

The works will concern the Baydaratskaya Bay of the Kara Sea. The entire area of the study is 20,000 square kilometers; the depth will be at least 10 kilometers.

Experts will search for a direct indication of the presence of oil and gas at the bottom of the water area through geochemical sampling and seismoacoustic profiling.

Rosgeo will complete its obligations under the contract before the end of 2017.

Upon the project's completion, areas will be identified with hydrocarbon discovery potential.
