Chukotka companies have mined 27 tons of gold, 150 tons of silver in 2016 so far

Through November 2016, companies developing mineral deposits in the Chukotka Autonomous Area have mined 27 metric tons of gold or 10 percent less than the same period in 2015, the Area's official website reports. Reduced gold production volumes are linked with a decline in gold ore output at some local deposits. Silver output increased 7 percent reaching 150 metric tons over the same period.

Five companies, including the Chukotka Mining & Geological Company, Severnoye Zoloto (Northern Gold) Ltd., Karalveyem Mine, Valunisty Mine and Maiskoye Gold Ore Co. Ltd., mine gold ore in the autonomous area and account for nearly 90 percent of local gold output.

In all, 16 companies mined just over 2.1 metric tons of placer gold during the 2016 season or 1 percent more than 2015.
