Environmental rafting on the Sob river removes litter from tourist stops

During the eco-rafting trip on the Sob river in the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Area  held on June 12-13, litter was removed from all tourist stops, the Arctic-info news agency reports. Over the period of two days, more than ten 120-litre bags worth of litter were removed from the riverbanks.

The rafting trip involved employees from regional departments, the Yamaltour Company, journalists from the major regional media outlets, as well as bloggers and representatives of various organizations.

The Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Area Department of Youth Policy and Tourism and the Yamaltour Company organized the event. There are plans to hold a similar event next year.

The first environmental rafting trip down the Sob river, in which 60 people participated, was held in June 2013. Last year's rafting trip involved 68 people who cleaned up 17 tourist stops within two days.
