Severnaya Derevyan January holiday tour of Arkhangelsk Region

The Arkhangelsk Regional Tourist Information Center has announced a January holiday package to Severnaya Derevyan, a tour across the Arkhangelsk region that will take place during the January holidays, Arctic-Info reports.  Vacationers will travel by car t from January 2 to 8 and will cover 1,500 km,  taking in the sites from the Velsk, Ust-Yansk, Pinezhsky, Lensky, Vilegodsky, Kholmogory and Primosky districts of the region.  Participants will be able to celebrate Orthodox Christmas in the Pinezhsky village of Verkola, the home village of writer Fyodor Abramov.

The expedition members will visit Russian wooden architecture sites, including the Mother Winter's Residence in the old village of Yarensk, as well as the Sursky and Artyomiyevo-Verkolsky monasteries. "While on the trip, participants will enjoy the mightiness of northern nature, exquisite traditional architecture and the warm hospitality of the northern people. In the evenings, the participants will have a chance to try their hand at folk crafts and be able to enjoy a traditional northern meal in village houses hosted by local residents," the expedition leader, Nikolai Romanosky, said.

Participation is free for children under seven and 70% of the regular price for children aged seven to 17.
