Reindeer Day celebrations have begun in the Purovsky District of the Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Area. The celebrations were launched at the Kar-Nat trading station on February 21 and 22, a statement on the official website of the local government reads.

The Kar-Nat trading station hosted reindeer races as well as individual and team competitions in national sports among agricultural enterprises in the district, including cross-country ski races, national wrestling, stick pulling, lasso throwing, sledge jump and national triple jump. The cultural program also featured a contest of national clothes and a competition for the best female tent-keeper — 2016.

In 2016, Reindeer Day will be celebrated in the Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Area from February 21 to April 27. The 21^st Yamal Governor's Reindeer Cup will be held in Nadym on March 12 and 13.
