This summer was the second stage of cleanup operations on Vilkitsky Island. Volunteers spent a month collecting about 2,600 empty fuel barrels. They plan to gather all the scrap metal on the island that has been accumulating for decades and send it back to the mainland. Volunteer Georgy Andreyev took photographs for this story.
