Sergei Pisarev

Head of the Polar Oceanology Group at the Russian Academy of Sciences’ Institute of Oceanology, PhD (Physics/Mathematics)

1981: graduated from the Geography Department’s Oceanology Faculty at Lomonosov Moscow State University.

1980: received a diver’s certificate.

1991: defended his PhD thesis on internal waves inside an ice-covered high-latitude basin and received a PhD in Physics/Mathematics at the Moscow State Institute of Oceanography.

1991–1994: worked as a senior research associate at the Moscow State Institute of Oceanography.

1997–2006: worked as a senior research associate at the Science Applications International Corporation-Global Technology (Western Services Corporation since 1999), Moscow (part-time).

From 2004: leading research associate and Head of the Polar Oceanology Group at the Russian Academy of Sciences’ Shirshov Institute of Oceanology.

From 2011: leading research associate at the Zubov State Institute of Oceanography (part-time).

1982–2016: headed expeditions and groups and worked as a research associate at 19 Russian and two international seasonal drifting camps in the Central Arctic and near the Franz Josef Land and Svalbard archipelagos.

1996–2015: research associate with eight Russian and German icebreaker expeditions in the Central Arctic and the Okhotsk Sea.

2010: awarded the title of Honorary Polar Explorer of Russia.
