Rapid Greenland ice sheet melt recorded

NASA's Aqua satellite captured unique images of a process of sea ice melting off the coast of Greenland.

The space image depicts the Jakobshavn Glacier as of July 31 and August 16. According to the experts, recently, its area has decreased by over 12 square kilometers, the Arctic-Info news agency reported.

As previously reported, Greenland glaciers are sweepingly melting, probably due to the fact that ice sheets are warmed not only by external heat and light, but also by melt water from overflowing subglacial lakes.
