Bely Island to host a climate and ice monitoring center

A research center will be established to monitor the environment, climate and ice situation on Bely Island in the Kara Sea, TASS reports.

"We are planning to establish a research center on Bely Island in the middle of the Kara Sea to monitor environmental and climatic changes, the ice situation, and icebergs. Eventually a rescue service could be based there as well," Anatoly Brekhuntsov, Director General of the Siberian Research and Analytical Center, said during Expert Time in the Federation Council.

Federation Council Speaker Valentina Matviyenko instructed the Federation Council's Working Group for Arctic Development to analyze his proposals and integrate them into the legislative and practical effort.
