Arctic Floating University and Arctic Museum to open in Arkhangelsk

A museum of the Arctic Floating University and the Arctic, which will open in Arkhangelsk, will exhibit items found during Arctic expeditions, Arctic-Info has reported.

The Arctic Floating University is a joint research and educational project of the Northern (Arctic) Federal University and the Northern Department for Hydrometeorology and Environmental Monitoring.

"The participants of the Arctic Floating University 2015 project have collected many interesting samples of the Arctic flora and fauna such as unique rocks and animal remains, as well as interesting household items," said the press service of the Northern Department for Hydrometeorology and Environmental Monitoring.

Konstantin Zaikov, the head of the expedition and Director of the Northern (Arctic) Federal University named after Mikhail Lomonosov, said they found 52 interesting items, including animal bones, a well-preserved eider duck egg, and samples of granite and quartz from Sosnovets Island, as well as herbarium specimens.

The exposition is scheduled to open in February 2016, ahead of the Arctic Days festival.
