Rosatomflot icebreakers make 462 port entries to deliver 31,670,000 tons of cargo during winter and spring shipping season

Rosatomflot icebreakers made 416 calls to the port of Sabetta and 46 calls to the Gates of the Arctic oil terminal from December 2019 to June 2020. According to the results of the winter and spring shipping season, their gross registered tonnage totaled 31,670,000 metric tons against 30,190,000 metric tons for the same period in 2018-2019.

"Two very early eastward convoys of the Christophe de Margerie and the Vladimir Voronin gas tankers was the key event of the winter and spring shipping session. After these voyages, the Yamal nuclear icebreaker escorted three more gas carriers: the Vladimir Rusanov, the Georgy Ushakov and the Georgy Brusilov. Extending the eastward shipping season to 9-10 months is an important step of Rosatomflot toward year-round shipping along the Northern Sea Route," said General Director of Atomflot Mustafa Kashka.

Currently, the nuclear icebreakers Taimyr, Vaigach and 50 Let Pobedy (50th Anniversary of Victory) and the nuclear container carrier Sevmorput (Northern Sea Route) are undergoing scheduled annual maintenance. The Yamal nuclear icebreaker continues operating under contracts along the Northern Sea Route. This summer, the icebreaker will escort ships delivering goods to the Extreme North and similar regions.
