State commission greenlights comprehensive Arctic research program

A subgroup for scientific research of the State Commission for the Development of the Arctic's Education and Science Development working group has approved a coordinated program for comprehensive Arctic and Antarctic research, the press service of the Ministry of Education and Science reports.

The meeting brought together representatives of the Ministry of Energy, the Ministry of Economic Development, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, the Ministry of Culture, and the Ministry of Education and Science, as well as several members of academia.

Special focus was placed on promoting expeditions including as part of international cooperation.

The State Commission for the Development of the Arctic was set up on the president's executive order in February 2015. It is headed by Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin.
