The Eastern Military District's environmental platoon has collected over a thousand metal barrels and has prepared them for removal to the mainland, the district press service reports.

"The Eastern Military District's environmental platoon has collected over 1,000 discarded barrels near the township of Ushakovskoye on Wrangel Island, compacted and delivered them to the loading site. Their next destination to clean is Cape Hawaii," the press release says.

The platoon is to collect and compress some 600 tons of scrap metal by mid-October for delivery to the mainland by charter vessels.
