Northern Fleet conscripts to train in Arctic survival skills

Northern Fleet conscripts will train in combat and Arctic survival skills in a variety of conditions, head of the fleet's press service Captain 1st Rank Vadim Serga told RIA Novosti.

About 1,000 young men have already been conscripted to the Northern Fleet during the 2016 autumn conscription campaign. They are training at special ranges to conduct combat operations in a variety of conditions under the guidance of experienced instructors.

"Our soldiering program for the ground and coastal units is focused on Arctic survival skills," Captain Serga said.

Before taking the oath, the conscripts of the Northern Fleet's coastal units underwent basic combat training, which includes firing, first aid, engineer and marching drills, as well as social and civic training and the study of manuals.

Overall, some 3,000 servicemen will be conscripted to the Northern Fleet during the 2016 autumn conscription campaign.
