The Senezh sets off on an Arctic expedition for artifacts

The Senezh, a hydrographic survey ship, has sailed to the Barents Sea, RIA Novosti reported. The hydrographers will conduct research in the Arctic, head of the Northern Fleet's press service, Captain First Rank Vadim Serga said.

"Within a few weeks, as long as the northern weather and the ice conditions allow, the researchers will have to carry out a large set of measures to study the little-explored areas. The hydrographers will collect new information necessary for adjusting sea charts, guides and manuals for navigation, and will examine and inspect geodetic points," Serga said.

The researchers will also look for traces and artifacts left from the first expeditions to the Arctic. In addition, they will continue to explore the coast of the Novaya Zemlya archipelago, where in the past two years, geographic discoveries have been made related to changes in the shoreline after glacier descents.
