Drones to monitor the Arctic

Unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) service and operation specialists have arrived in Chukotka to prepare drones for monitoring the Russian Arctic, RIA Novosti reports, citing Capt. 1st Rank Roman Martov, Chief of the Information Support Department at the Eastern Military District Press Service.

"UAVs will be used to monitor the Pacific coast, the mainland part of the force's responsibility in the northeast and naval training grounds," Capt. Martov said. "In the future, UAVs will be used to accompany warships and vessels and also monitor the environmental and ice status of the Arctic Sea, including a section of the Northern Sea Route."
