Defense Ministry drones begin monitoring Arctic regions

The unmanned aerial vehicles of the Defense Ministry's Arctic reconnaissance and surveillance unit have commenced flights in Russia's polar region, RIA Novosti reported, citing Captain 1st Rank Vadim Serga, head of the Northern Fleet's press service.

"The UAV unit of the Northern Fleet's Separate Arctic Motorized Coast Guard Brigade has started making flights in the Polar region. Tachyon and Eleron-3 UAVs are monitoring the airspace over the Murmansk Region," Mr Serga said.

The Tachyon UAVs have been tested in Arctic conditions, he added. One of the last tests was held on Franz Joseph Land in mid-May.
