Arctic is Russia’s military priority – minister

Creating military infrastructure in the Arctic will remain a priority for the Russian Armed Forces in the foreseeable future, Defense Minister Army Gen. Sergei Shoigu told Rossiya Segodnya.

The available resources will be funneled into the main areas of Armed Forces development, such as creating military infrastructure in the Arctic, upgrading the airport network, and introducing advanced technology related to the provision of materiel and technical support for troops, he said.

"The implementation of [federal targeted] programs helps successfully achieve systemic goals in using arms and military equipment, building naval infrastructure for the Black Sea Fleet and enhancing the effectiveness of airspace control in the Russian Federation," Shoigu stressed.
