Arktika, an all-terrain armored personnel carrier, to be designed in Russia

Russian tank manufacturers have been developing the latest all-terrain armored personnel carrier, Arktika, to be used by crews in northern latitudes, Vyacheslav Khalitov, Uralvagonzavod Head of Division of Special Equipment, said.

According to Mr. Khalitov, Uralvagonzavod is now designing a prototype of the future two-section armored personnel carrier for Arctic crews, the Arktika armored personnel carrier.

"Two-section means there are two articulated parts: the first part is in the control compartment containing the power unit, and the second one is in the compartment for the crew or various weapons systems," Rossiya Segodnya reported, citing Mr.  Khalitov.

Mr. Khalitov also said that such equipment demonstrates high mobility, especially in almost impassable regions, such as saturated terrain or in the Arctic zone.
