Submarine Yury Dolgoruky completes Arctic training cruise

A nuclear-powered ballistic missile submarine, the Yury Dolgoruky, has completed a two-month training exercise in the Arctic and has returned to the submarine base of Russia's Northern Fleet, Rossiya Segodnya has reported, citing Captain 1st Rank Vadim Serga, head of the Northern Fleet's press service.

"According to the submarine's commander, Captain 1st Rank Vladimir Shirin, they have fulfilled the tasks set to them for this cruise, the submarine is in working order, and the crew is well and ready to fulfill new tasks," Captain Serga said.

As per the Northern Fleet's tradition that goes back to WWII, the welcoming ceremony included the presentation of a roast suckling pig to the submarine's commander and distinguished certificates to crew members.

The Yury Dolgoruky, the first Borei-class ballistic missile submarine of Project 955, entered service in 2012.
