Polyarnaya electric power plant to be launched in Salekhard in mid-2016

The Polyarnaya electric power plant will be launched in Salekhard in mid-2016. It will become one of the main energy suppliers for the Northern Latitudinal Railway, said Mikhail Gilev, the director of the Department of Energy, Housing and Utilities of the Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Area.

He said the power line from Nadym to Salekhard has already been built. At present, the Polyarnaya electric power plant and two sub-stations are under construction.

"All major decisions have been approved and tenders for Tyumenenergo contractors conducted. The main technological equipment has been ordered, bought and delivered. Now it has to be installed. In the winter, this process slows down for objective reasons. We plan to launch the future plant in mid-2016," the Arctic-Info agency quoted him as saying.

According to Gilev, once a bridge across the Ob River is put into service, the Northern Latitudinal Railway will require electric energy transit. At that point, the newly-built Polyarnaya power plant will be connected to the Labytnangi-Kharp area and will become a major energy supplier for the railway.
