Russian military infrastructure to be built in the Arctic

The Federal Agency for Special Construction (Spetsstroy) will prepare sites for the placement of Russian garrisons and military equipment in the Arctic, the agency's press service said. The agency will use boilers and diesel generators designed specifically for conditions in the Extreme North.

"The equipment will be used for Spetsstroy construction needs and to generate electricity for building and assembly works," the agency said.

Last year, Russian military infrastructure was built on Wrangel Island, Alexandra Land, Mys Shmidta and New Siberian Islands. Military towns and airfields are being built on six Arctic islands.
