Shoigu: Federal targeted programs for infrastructure development in the Arctic, nuclear weapons to increase Russia’s defense potential

Federal targeted programs aimed at military infrastructure and airfield network construction in the Arctic, as well as providing nuclear weapons security, will raise the Russian army's combat readiness, Defense Minister and General of the Army Sergei Shoigu said at a teleconference, according to RIA Novosti.

"Implementing these programs will raise the Russian army's combat readiness and Russia's defense potential," the Defense Minister said.

The decision to develop the draft federal targeted programs was made in July at a Defense Ministry board meeting. The draft programs are now being coordinated.

"We expect the federal executive authorities that are concerned with the implementation of the projects to provide favorable conclusions by the end of 2015," Shoigu said.
